Thanks Alan – we are definitely following you on Twitter, I think we’ll have to have a 10 (more) Barefoot Runners to Follow on Twitter article! :)

Shoes are not bare feet. Barefoot =/= shoes, that’s the whole point of the word, the simplest meaning of it. Vibram FiveFingers are shoes, but nothing like being barefoot except allowing slightly more flexibility, but by that definition, socks are “barefoot” as well. They are, however, NOT barefoot just like moccasins or boots aren’t barefoot.

Hence, number 5 shouldn’t even be in the list. Barefoot running is running barefoot. Come on, people. It really isn’t THAT hard.

Hi KarmaPaw,

Thank you for your comment. While I agree that at it’s definition barefoot running = running barefoot, the “barefoot running” movement has grown to include those who wear minimalist shoes, and therefore I felt it was acceptable to include “barefoot runners” that support the movement by running in minimalist shoes. I like to think that even minimalist shoes & Vibrams are a step in the right direction :)

But technically speaking, no #5 isn’t “barefoot”. Maybe we’ll have to have a “10 minimalist runners to follow on twitter” article too!
