For this installment of the Linchpin Series, Barefoot Running spoke to Brant, the founder of Branca Running from his home In Portland, Oregon, where he is currently attending chiropractic school (in addition to building his sandal empire). He informed us that he moved there recently from Utah, where got degree in exercise science.

BR:  When did Branca Running launch?

BRANCA:  I was finishing my studies in exercise science at BYU in October 2009, when my friend Caleb introduced me to Born to Run. I thought it made sense. I started running barefoot because I had some knee problems and thought it could help. I moved to running in Five Fingers and some homemade Huaraches, but the lacing was uncomfortable. I really liked running in sandals, though, so I started to experiment with local rubber, ties, and such. In December of that year, I made the first pair. They didn’t really work, but it was a start!

We launched officially in March 2011. The build up to that launch was consumed with decisions about things like what the company would look like, etc.

The past three months have seen slow and steady sales. I’ve been busy with school, so it’s been a little challenging. But we’re excited and anticipate that the company will really take off soon.

BR:  What was the inspiration behind Branca Running?

BRANCA:  When I started to practice natural running, my knee pain went away. I became a believer. Plus, I like to build and create things, so when I started to think of how I could improve a product, it provided another source of motivation. Being creative is something I like to do – it makes this company more fun than work.

BR:  What is your background – or what was it about your background that inspired Branca Running?

BRANCA:  My background in anatomy and biomechanics, especially in the lower extremities, play into my shoe business a lot – they support each other perfectly.

It will all the time be stimulating to learn content material from other writers and apply just a little something from their store. I’d want to make use of some with the content material on my blog whether or not you don’t mind. Natually I’ll provide you with a hyperlink on your internet blog. Thanks for sharing.
